Minutes and Discourse of the October 1841 Nauvoo General Conference

Conference record · 1841 October General Conference · 1841-10-01

Fidelity

Fragmentary

Preferred witness is the Joseph Smith Papers featured text of the Times and Seasons minutes, not verbatim sermon transcripts. The record preserves conference minutes, business actions, and a substantial reported summary of Joseph Smith's discourse on baptism for the dead; discrete complete talks are not recoverable from this source.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Light review: in-context proofread and spacing fixes.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Heavyweight pass: fetched all five JSP pages spanning pp.576-580 (paper-summary/minutes-and-discourse-1-5october-1841/1 through /5) and collated the full text word-for-word, including the full baptism-for-the-dead discourse summary. Fixed seven fidelity slips where the manuscript's own bracketed insertions (President [William] Marks, R[obert] B. Thompson, Br. B[righam] Young, Br. O[rson] Pratt, Br. O[rson] Hyde, Br. H[eber] C. Kimball, Mr. [Horace] Hotchkiss, prophe[t]) had been silently flattened. Otherwise an exact match throughout, including original typos ('cenference', 'revelatiens', 'Saddacee'). Metadata confirmed accurate.
